Update on the Statutory SEND Service

We know that recent communication about the Statutory SEND Service has been shared more widely, and we want to provide a clear update for children, young people and families on the current position
22 May 2026

The service is currently operating under business continuity arrangements. This is a planned and proactive approach to managing short-term staffing pressures, helping us focus on what matters most. During this time, we are prioritising support for children and young people in the most vulnerable situations, while continuing to meet our statutory duties.

We want to reassure you that we are taking active steps to strengthen the service. We are putting in place short-term plans to address current staffing challenges and ensure appropriate capacity. Alongside this, we are continuing to develop our longer-term improvements, including moving to age-based teams, to ensure the service is better structured to meet the needs of children and young people.

This is part of a positive, forward-looking approach to building a service with the right capacity and expertise to support children, young people and families. We expect the short-term staffing plans to be in place within the next two weeks.

While these plans are put in place, there may be some delays to parts of the service until the capacity is restored. We are committed to being open and transparent about this and will keep you updated on progress.

We remain fully dedicated to working in partnership with families and to securing the best possible outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.
