This term, Suffolk is prioritising reviews for children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who are at a key transition point in their education, such as starting primary school, secondary school or post-16 provision or needing to move from mainstream to specialist.
These reviews are important because they help ensure the right support and placement arrangements are in place ahead of transition deadlines.
This prioritisation will also support work with Suffolk schools to ensure the review system is stable and resilient to the numbers of reviews expected this term.
As a result, some reviews for children and young people who are not at a key transition point, may take place later than their usual review date.
This temporary approach will help:
- Ensure transition reviews are completed on time.
- Maintain the quality of reviews and allow meaningful participation from families and professionals.
- Reduce pressure across schools and Statutory SEND services during the busiest part of the year.
- Support timely decision-making for children and young people with EHCPs.
Any revised review dates will continue to be carefully monitored and all children and young people will still receive their review.
By taking this approach, we can make sure those facing important educational transitions receive the support and planning they need while continuing to provide high-quality reviews for all children and young people with SEND.
